Finally a snowy outlook

Snow cat

Well it’s obviously winter again.. and now we finally have some accumulating snow on the ground (and in the mountains). This weekend; we all finally have some hope of riding/hiking and finding real snow !! The base provided by the 2 last snowfalls has stayed put thanks to some really cold weather.

One of the sites which I depend on heavily, as I can no longer trust the reports from our favorite ski-hills, is “First Tracks!! Online Ski Magazine Bulletin board for the East coast“. They have a couple non-partial meteorologists who update everyone on what’s really going to happen minus all the marketing fluff. These ski hill marketing folks who are NEVER allowed to report “rain”, in fact last week they used the word “funk” in place of “rain”. Brought some disturbing images to my head.

“Significant terrain and lake enhanced snowfall will occur from New York to Maine, especially across the northern tier where accumulations could easily reach double digits at places like Sugarloaf, Cannon, Bretton Woods, Jay Peak, Smugglers Notch, Stowe, and Bolton Valley. A long duration event from Friday afternoon through Saturday, possibly lingering into early Sunday morning in northwest NH and the northern Green Mountain spine, will be caused by the correct combination of wind and moisture being forced up and over the highest terrain. These areas include the northern Adirondack slopes, the Green Mountain spine, and the northern White Mountains.” — Scott Braaten’s Ski Weather

Sounds like fun — let’s hope that’s the outcome!
