Pioneer 10 plaque

We were all talking about this article that popped up on DIGG last night. Basically it states that we could be very close to contacting another intelligent civilization; and that we should apply our own understanding of survival of the fittest/evolution to the issue of interaction with another life form, possibly much older than our own. A very interesting argument that has become the fodder of too many hollywood movies.

“The late Carl Sagan, the American astronomer who died a decade ago, also worried about so-called “First Contact”. He recommended that we, the newest children in a strange and uncertain cosmos, should listen quietly for a long time, patiently learning about the universe and comparing notes. He said there is no chance that two galactic civilisations will interact at the same level. In any confrontation, one will always dominate the other.” — http://comment.independent.co.uk/commentators/article2702529.ece

Wow – that article is crazy. I’m not ready to be eaten! Yipes! (although if they have a version of the food network that could make for some interesting viewing…)
